One of the more hard to find Scratch Practice tapes from the Skratch Pikl crew. This one features Q-Bert & A-Trak and was recorded in July of 1997. Each side has both DJ's catching wrek over a beat for 30 minutes. Side A is your basic drum beat you hear on the dirt style scratch records. I wish they switched the beat up as it gets a little old but not the B-Side. We get 30 mins of The Jungle Brothers - How Ya Want It (We Got It) Instrumental. I could listen to that shit for 45 mins if I had to. Not many people can listen to a full scratch practice tape so this is for my headz that appreciate the art of the cut, enjoy!

I'll go with The East Flatbush Project as my favorite Remix on this CD and I can't front, that Interlude beat is dope too! Enjoy!

You get a brief discussion on DJ'ing, Turntable Setups, Beat Matching, How To Scratch, A Solo Routine from each DJ with a Team Routine from Babu & Melo-D plus the video for Key Kool & DJ Rhettmatic's - Can U Hear It?! I know the Diggers Union have been posting some clips from this Doc but here it is in full for anyone who hasn't checked this out. DJ Melo-D - The A.M. Workshop (2001)

I was a big fan of Melo-D's Turnfable Mixtape from 97 and was wondering when he was gonna drop a new tape. Fast forward a few years and Melo is backatcha with a couple more mixtapes fresh for the new millenium. He dropped Aquaboogie in 2000 which you can find here courtesy of my man Bzrwon & The A.M. Workshop in 2001. Now Aquaboogie was more on the funk tip so it was nice to see Melo back with some Hip Hop. 60 minutes cut up Beat Junkie style! Enjoy!

I got in touch with Stretch about this piece of vinyl to get some history on it and this is what he said.

"Freestyle Frenzy were a series of limited edition freestyle compilations highlighting some stellar live on air segments from my radio show on KCR. I believe it is the first of its kind, and predates a slew of future releases that captured unofficial recordings. To give you a little insight into how novel this record was, when Ghostface was in record store in Virginia, someone played for him a 12" that was a bootleg of the Meth/Ghost freestyle off of Freestyle Frenzy. When he got back to NYC, he went straight to Loud Records and was ready to flip. It was a little unpleasant because I was on Loud's payroll as a frelance A&R man. While I believe he was enjoying the drama, and making it seem worse than it was, Steve Rifkind was acting like the sky was about to fall, full of panic, certain that Saholin was about t wreck Loud's offices and cause me bodily harm. It turns out I saw Ghost later that month, and he really had very little idea what I was talking about when I tried to explain what the record was. To this day I don't know what really happened, but it was a bit controversial for a minute because no one could tell if it was a good thing for the artists or if it was a bootleg. Keep in mind this before the digital revolution."
